Luau Party Ideas

Hawaiian Hello
On your invitations, ask your guests to come dressed in their favorite Hawaiian shirt, shorts, dress, thongs, grass skirts, or Puka shells. When each guest arrives, let the birthday child present him or her with a plastic lei to set the mood. Don’t forget to give each person a welcoming “Aloha!”

Games
Pass the Coconut - The players sit in a circle with one player holding a coconut. The music (a Hawaiian tune) begins and the coconut is passed around the circle until the music stops. The player holding the coconut when the music stops is out. The music begins again and the play continues until there is only one player left.

Flamingos - This is a game of elimination. Two players should stand about five feet apart, facing away from each other. Each challenger holds his raised foot behind him in one hand with a water pistol in the other hand. On the signal each flamingo turns around and tries to make the other contestant lose his balance and drop his foot. The contestants may not touch each other, but a squirt of water is part of the game. The winner takes on the next challenger until there is only one player remaining.

Hula La - You will need the following items:
• Coconut Bra
• Grass Skirt
• Straw Hat
• Flower Ankle Bracelet
• Lei
Divide your guest into two teams. Choose a person from each team to be the "Hula La." Have each team form a line with the "Hula La" (the chosen team member) at the end. Place one of each of the items in a pile at the beginning of each line. To begin, the first person in line puts on all the items in the pile. The second person in line can help by handing items to the person getting dressed. After all items are somewhere on the first person's body, they undress and place items with help of the next person in line. Continue until all members of the team have dressed and undressed and the "Hula La" wears all the items. The winning team is the team that finishes first.

Treasure Hunt - Kids love treasure hunts. So why not bury some small party favors and let them go at it.

Pin the coconut on the Palm Tree -
Just like pin the tail on the donkey but a luau theme game instead
